Girley Bog - restoration, rehabilitation and water level monitoring
In 2021 the restoration and rehabilitation on the Irish Peatland Conservation Council owned land at Girley Bog was supported by the National Parks and Wildlife Service Protected Raised Bog Restoration Programme with funding from the Carbon Tax Fund. In 2022 community engagement and re-instating the water level monitoring on the reserve was made possible with funding support from the Peatlands Community Engagement Scheme from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. This video shares with you the works that were completed.

Swesome
Too many people in Ireland don't appreciate the beauty of our bogs. Many folks see bogs either as a means of resource extraction, a depressing and barren place (those types really know nothing about bogs) or worse still a dumping ground. Because they don't realise how valuable our bogs are they destroy them, or overlook their destruction. But how can we change people's mindsets? I do think that most people do have an innate capacity to appreciate nature though.
I see newts.
Thanks this helps me
What town is that at 1:15 ?
school anyone?
Nice job.
Anyone saw baby axalot in that container
Wow this looks fun!
I need to find an Eastern Canada version of this!
thank you, I love learning new things. Now to find the rushes!!!
As a beekeeper I`m very disappointed by the locals who destroied tens of hectars of heather around my apiary due to the turf cutting. My neighbour allways have tons of turf in his shed, no matter what the season is... Human greed is endless :((( And I need to feed my bees by the sugar with the goverment raised tax on it, from now on :((((((( I`m getting mad and desperate, seen so much desperate madness around...
Thank you, succinct and informative.
Love this - and am about to make one in time for Imbolc. Thanks for the simple instructions. :)
Hi gffgghh
An old guy I used to work for said turf is the only thing that will make you warm twice, first time when you're cutting it, second time when you're burning it. I wonder who figured out that if you dig it up and dry it you can burn it.
I just come in from footing turf my house will be warm tis winter and for many a winter to come
hi Pete... yeah hi Pete... HEY PYTOR!.... yeah Pete?.... Seen Peter around?.... Yes, He's in St Petersberg!.... Oh! (An average day in Peatland.)
Why isn't the large-scale turf-cutting being stoped? There are power stations run on the stuff.
That'll keep you warm on a cold winter night alright!!!
nice video :)
Nice work everyone at the IPCC.
